‘Sticks and things’ is s series of drypoints created between 2000 and 2005 in London. The drypoints are all very small, the effect aimed for was one of quietness and humility. The images here are a tiny fraction of those actually made; in order to achieve the emptiness and simplicity it was necessary to select only the ones where the very small motifs were exactly right.
The Plein Air drypoints link to the plain air paintings and drawings in the landscape section.
They were produced outside, around Strandhill in County Sligo, often in rather unfavourable conditions. The plates were printed up indoors, and no revisions or additions made to the plates. As with Sticks and things, many more plates were produced than were finally selected.
