Bedside series, Inpatients Unit Mental Health Services, Sligo, Coordinated by the Arts Initiative in Mental Health 2012.
Last year Parsons worked with patients at the Inpatients unit in Sligo to develop a series of etchings and woodcuts that will be a permanent part of the decor of the wards. The process of consultation and creative development, through a sequence of workshops, led to a sense of co-authorship of the resulting works. The artworks themselves were designed to be serene and quiet works with spare use of colour. The works were framed in such a way as to blend in to their environment. A set of smaller chine collé woodcuts were also devised, using free standing frames to go on the desks of nurses OTs and administrators.
The images were developed into a series of cards by Niamh O’Connor.
